On April 25, 2007 then Connecticut governor Jody Rell issued a proclamation declaring it to be Parental Alienation day.
Connecticut defined Parental Alienation as follows: The mental manipulation of children with the sole purpose of destroying a relationship with one of the parents. A purposeful attempt which can occur without any conscious intent, due to a parents inability to put the child’s well-being before that parents own feelings. An act that deprives children of their right to be loved by and cared for by both parents. Connecticut declared there is little public awareness of Parental Alienation and it is a growing issue in cases of divorce and separation. This day is viewed as an opportunity to educate judges, law enforcement and the public of the issues surrounding Parental Alienation. It is believed that education and awareness are effective tools against parental alienation Are you familiar with parentification? Parental alienation is perhaps more “familiar” to moms and dads but this too impacts us and our children.
I encourage you to learn about parentification and its terrible impact on kids. "just a dad" In the grocery store this week.
